Without treatment, sciatica can progressively worsen until more invasive interventions may be required. Chiropractic treatment today can help save additional struggles down the road. Continue reading to learn more on how Phipps-Swenson Chiropractic can help you find relief today!

A true sciatica is caused when there is irritation or compression to the roots of the sciatic nerve as it exits the spine. This can be the result of a bulging disc, bone spurs, or, in rare cases, tumorous growths that put pressure onto the nerve. The pain that is caused from sciatica impacts many daily tasks difficult or even unbearable. Even things as simple as standing or sitting can become excruciating and people find themselves constantly adjusting their position in attempt to find relief. In addition to pain, people will often experience other nerve-related symptoms such as numbness, tingling, burning sensations and/or weakness of the leg or foot.
Extended, untreated cases of sciatica will not only leave you susceptible to worsening pain symptoms but can drastically impact other areas of your body. As you are compensating for the sciatic pains, different areas of the body can become over-stressed, leading to issues outside of the low back and legs. Additionally, the longer that the nerve is being irritated, the longer that it can take for that nerve to recover. Physiologically, nerves are slower to heal than a lot of other structures in the body which makes today the best day to begin treatment!
Whenever someone has pain in their lower back and travels down the legs, it can be commonly classified as sciatica even when it is not a true sciatic issues. Various conditions such as lumbar disc herniations, spinal stenosis, piriformis syndrome, sacroiliac or facet joint dysfunction, or claudication can present with very similar symptoms. This makes it vital that we are able to accurately identify the true source of your pain to properly treat it and provide you the relief you deserve.
